Budget tube receiver

With luck, maybe a Sherwood S7700 or 8000. More likely some Japanese import from a lesser know company such as Monarch. Also, possibly something sourced from Lafayette, Radio Shack or Olson.

There may be a better selection if willing to go with mono. Or, an AM-FM stereo unit and then add the outboard multiplex board. These options usually have wider frequency responses than the later stereo fm receivers. The AM-FM units also have some of the better sounding AM tuners of any as they were trying to sound as good as the FM as each channel came in on one of the tuners.

Bogen made a few, which seem to still be under the radar. And the H-Ks go for less than Scott or Fisher. Also Knight, Kenwood, Pioneer. As mentioned, any before about 1962 will not have stereo FM.

recently purchased a Pilot 602 tube receiver ,payed around 300 for it,It a beaut and perfect for the bedroom system as I like to listen to AM in the late evenings.
it runs 6bq5 output tubes and has a very refined sound to it thu any source,

There is actually a nice little Bogen receiver for sale on BT right now. Not mine, just mentioning it.

The Pioneer SX-34 (or SX-34B), frequently rebranded as the Allied 333 can usually be had for well below your budget.
