Building Altec Valencia speaker stands...

Hello all,
I decided that my Altec Valencias could use a little bit of elevation, so I'm brainstorming ideas on how to build speaker stands for them. I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I'd like them to look decent. I've thought about making a shorter, stockier version of this: http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-your-own-Speaker-Stands/

Any thoughts? I read on the forums that some people like to put sand or other things in the speaker stands, so I considered just making an enclosed box between 18x24 top and bottom panels and filling it with something.

I've never built speaker stands before, so any information to help me with this project would be most appreciated!

I used a set of vintage furniture legs, about six inches tall, walnut, tapered with brass feet at the bottom tips on my 846Bs, really like the way they came out. I would not raise them too far up with stands--might loose some of the bass coupling to the floor.

I too would think 6" off floor is about enough without loosing bass. And legs more than a box or flat affair seems better, but I'm not makin em or usin em. Altho a large flat surface with legs could do. Always did want some Valencias but never had any A friend did so I know what they can do. GReat spkrs.

I built these out of solid oak. Top and bottom plate could be matched to the size of your speakers and the height can easily be cut to suit any you would like. I bought the spikes from PE.

Hope this helps.

Vincent

Edit: sorry these were sold already!!
