Building my system Amp/Tuner advice please

Hi all, longtime vinyl hoarder here finally hoping to build a decent setup to take me back to my youth!
I have just picked up a pretty mint Thorens TD 150 mkII which for sentimental reasons is going to be the TT
(My Dad's TT when I discovered music in the 70s)
Now looking to get a decent vintage Amp/Receiver
Although I'm a Brit, I went to art college in the US in the late 70s/early 80s
so part of me want to go for a US Tuner - Marrantz?
My UK roots are also calling me toward maybe a Quad... 405? dunno
I'm open to persuasion! Any suggestions welcome I guess I don't want to go mad on budget
up to say £1000-1500 ukp max

My first post here, please go easy as I don't know much on the technical side...

thanks for chipping in!
well... I have a few options but all only temporary
probably for now a large pair of ancient JBL PA speakers
I'll need to check on the DB tomorrow when I'm home...

I'll probably get speakers after the Amp
(subject of the next post I guess )

Having an Amp/receiver with enough power to drive your speakers is always a good thing. Obviously with lower Db rated speakers of hard to drive speakers higher power is usually required.

If you don't listen to the radio, I'd suggest bypassing any receiver, and going straight to either an integrated amp, or a separate amp/preamp combo.

Thanks Rick, I mainly listen to internet radio so hardly ever old school FM radio...
