Bulb for 2235B Dial Pointer

Hi.

I have a 2235B in great shape, but the dial pointer light is out.
Does anyone know of an online retailer that carries the proper bulb?

Also, is this something that I can easily install myself? I've found references online for removing the top of the black plastic pointer unit, but no info on the bulb itself. Does it snap into place, or does it require soldering?

Thanks!

It's easy

I replace them with a small LED assembly but an 8V-12V grain of wheat lamp will work fine. You can get one at the Shack (272-1141). The top pops off of the pointer - then cut the original wires and install the new lamp/LED. You can solder the connections or just twist the wires together.
If you want more info just PM me.

First off, Welcome to AK! Why not jump over to the 'Introductions' area and introduce yourself?
Send a private message to AK member dgwojo, he's the lamp guy and will be able to fix you up with the proper part.
The lamp should be easy to change, usually it involves popping the pointer base apart and installing the new in place of the old.
There is a service manual for your receiver on hifiengine.com, with a parts breakdown.

My x-ref shows the 18" black wire 8v/60ma with metal collar is the exact lamp for the dial pointer. Fred, welcome to AK, please fill in your location in your profile so we have some idea where you're coming from, nice Marantz, Dave.

Thanks, Dave. Know where I can buy one of those?

I have very little experience fiddling around in the inside of electronic gear, so I want to make sure I do this correctly and not screw up my machine. Would that be easier or harder to install that following DH's suggestion of using the Radio Shack lamp?

Dave's lamps will be exact replacements where-as the RS stuff will work, but not be perfect.
Incidentally, welcome to A-K. Somehow, I missed that you were a new member. You will find this place a source of good information and the discussions are very civil.

First I want to state that I find Dave's lamps to be excellent.

I have seen the Led, lamp debate here. How about a combination of the 2? Perhaps keep using the lamps in the dial, meters, and use LED in the areas harder to replace, such as indicators, stereo, dial pointer, etc.?

I am no expert. I wouldn't mind replacing the meter/dial lamps from time to time, but the others can be real tough, not to mention possibliites of broken strings, etc. For those areas once is enough for me...
