Burlap fabric for Advent grill screen or something else?

The rubber wheels match my media cabinets, and hold 75 lbs per, and with 4 it goes up. My big amp weighs 135 lbs. Lawrence is an awesome city.


My my those look gorgeous. I prefer the Honey drippers LOL. Lighter is nice to me. Wheat is also good.

Row after row of heavy duty multicolored casters with and without brakes. Just perfect for any weight and application. Owned by a few sisters, and ridiculously low prices. I felt like I was stealing from them.

Mine came in today, and I've had time to play with it.

I was attempting to reattach Velcro strips to the back of a grille (OLA), and it fought
me. 1/8" legs isn't long enough, so I've just ordered 5/32" and 3/16" staples. It's
a tough combo- tiny legs and pressboard. So I'm hoping the extra length will get
the Velcro to stay attached.

Also, the gun misfires about half the time. It doesn't get the staple to the board,
so there is a staple loose in the magazine that has to be cleared every time
before trying again. I hope the longer staples will mitigate that. I have several
other projects I'd put on hold until I could figure something out. I don't know of
another option.
 
I have found that you really have to apply solid, even pressure for each staple. Yes 1/8 it not enough material for some thicker fabric, but they are the correct length for making grills out of the 1/8 flex board from the box stores. Let me know how the longer staples work with the Velcro.
 
My gun arrived Thursday and I will try it out tomorrow. I will post some pics and comments about how it came out. I also have an extra pair to practice on. Same problem with little square velcros that were off the grill, but luckily attached to the speaker blocks. Staples and all. I saved all the original parts. I will attempt the missing blocks first to get a feel for the gun. Was just wondering if maybe leaving a damp sponge on the board would soften it up or destroy it. Just an idea in case the staples won't go.
 
Got the 5/32" and 3/8" staples today. The gun is particular- there's a narrow range
of pressure (not too much and not too little) or you waste a staple. But, job done.
 
Finished up the grills yesterday so here is a few pics. The staples worked but think that maybe the length could go one size up. Only a few jams and many that just didn't penetrate. Just had to keep at it.
But the tightness and lack of sagging came out great. I struggled with the corners. Any overlap of the material made the short legs almost impossible to get a good enough penetration to hold. After being done I reinforced the corners with some hot melt glue. All in all they came out like new. I can't thank Mr. Bissness enough for his posts pointing to Salco and the gun and staples. Priceless information to help a first timer recondition an old, and I do mean OLD, set of grills. Be back with the pics computer is updating.

So this is the glue reinforcement on the corners. It comes off of a glue gun that is electric, heats up and melts sticks of glue. Hardens up after a few seconds. I am sure long term it will help. Still trying to find the pictures of the finished product. I do have the practice pair finished pics. Before and after. My pair is even better after the practice on the first 2. I did move the badge on the front on my pair to the left and up a little too. I will take more pics and post my pair with and without grills and back and front as well.

So this is what I ended up with. Cabinets have intact paperwork, slightly yellowed as they didn't use acid free paper back then. Woofers re-surrounded by Rich So using butyl rubber that does not rot and I still have a pair of L1230s in my cellar right now since 82, and the butyl rubber surrounds are soft and pliant just like the day they were put on. You can see the inside of the grills, and the badges in the first pic. I put the type of material used as well as the source in the last pic. Once again thanks to all who have posted information that helped me get back my first pair of decent speakers 50 years later.
