busted binding post

i busted a positive binding post on a cts speaker when reinstalling the chassis back in the amp. i'm including pictures but would like some recommendations on how to repair this. i notice that the back end of the post is connected to the voice coil so i don't want to make things worse as i had just thought of punching it out and finding a replacement. i've soldered the wire to what is barely left of the post but that is not very stable.

one picture is showing the style of the negative binding post. the other is the broken positive binding post.

thanks,
mikeB.

That braided wire is the tinsel lead, not the vc. It is made to be quite flexible in order to withstand prolonged movement/vibration. Just be careful. I would just replace the binding post with similar, maybe JBL type.

superampman: thanks,
should i just punch it thru? won't i have to reattach that braided wire to the new binding post once i punch thru the old one?
thanks again,
mikeB.

Sure, but you might want to drill it if it's going to take a lot of force. Just snip the braid where it joins the post first. It's most likely long enough to work with. You'll need a new post that's threaded and fastened to the basket with nuts. Solder the braid to the new post before fastening it to the basket. But before you solder, make sure you thread one nut all the way onto the post, slip the other onto the braid from underneath, pull the braid through the hole, and then solder it onto the post. Finally, reassemble.
