This past July, I bought a rebuilt Pioneer SX727 from Patfont for $270. The amp looked beautiful from the outside, but after only a few days of light use, I noticed that the audio was cutting out in the left channel, then it started happening in the right channel. I changed speaker plugs, speakers, inputs, electrical outlets, and even summed the inputs to mono output., but the problem persisted.
I contacted Pat and said "this was the first time this had ever happened to him" and he sent me some troubleshooting tips. Ultimately, I sent the amp back to Pat at my expense and he determined that the issue I was experiencing was caused by a bad contact relay. His timing was very convenient - he asked me some questions the day before the AK site went down for upgrades and I didn't even have a chance to respond. Then, the next week, a large, mangled box shows up at my doorstep from Pat. He shipped the amp back after testing for less than a day. When I mentioned this to Pat, he was taken aback at the suggestion that he should have waited for my response and he was also hesitant to refund my shipping charges, which he eventually did.
Nonetheless, I received the amp and it worked ok for a couple of weeks. This was not an everyday amp for me, just something to play once in a while in the family room. Unfortunately, one night while I was listening to music, the left channel cut out once again. I contacted Pat via PayPal to let him know that I was not interested in another repair - I wanted to return the amplifier for a refund. He said there would be a restocking fee and that he needed to recoup his shipping costs, so he would only refund me $168. He further emphasized how I should feel lucky that I got a good deal on the amp in the first place. I'm not sure what kind of delusional mindset Pat has, but to suggest that I should be lucky to have an unusable amplifier was the last straw for me.
Now, he won't even refund me anything and I am out $270 and left with a broken Pioneer.
If you're considering buying from Pat, watch out! He seems to be a scammer, but that's just my opinion!
