Buying 100v audio from Japan

I came across a sale on eBay for a Rega 2 turntable with cartridge, the seller stated that it ran slow and sometimes stopped, I thought this could be a loose pulley or maybe a stretched belt or something along those lines, but what really surprised me was the seller wanted £500 for it, I contacted him and explained that I could buy a new one for that price with a Rega carbon fitted, to which he replied that because his was fitted with a Nagaoka 110 it justified the price ( the cartridge was not new and in need of a replacement stylus ). I see it has still not sold.
Maybe it was just me that found this rather excessive?
 
I purchased a 100v Denon TT from a guy who was recommended here, my guess he got it from Japan. No problems so far….
