Buying a McIntosh 1500 Sept. 15 and need advice

Heh, interesting. IIRC the original transistors in the pre amp of the 1500 were germanium perhaps? Funny story, when I first got my 1500 I took it over to Dennis Had’s shop and while he was poking at it, he fried at least one or more of the original pre amp transistors. So we went through and replaced all of them, especially since they have those sockets vs being soldered directly to the board. As I recall, it made a notable improvement.

I believe silicon planer transistors were used, not germanium.
