I've had a nakamichi rx-303 for about a year and a half now and after an initial couple of months of difficulty, it's been working great.
Until a few days ago, when suddenly I started hearing a lot buzzing noise when I play any tape, or play the machine without a tape in it. This is audible through an amp and speakers as well as directly from the headphone jack.
I have cleaned the heads, tried a different outlet, unplugged almost every other device in the house and run it on its own, and even flipping the prongs and plugging back into the same outlet.
My suspicion is that the noise is coming from the take up spool. The frequency is audible just from the gear spinning on its own, without headphones or speakers.
I have some experience with turntable and amp repair, but very little with cassetted Any help solving this issue would be greatly appreciated. I want to rip some metal tapes before I sell some records!
