G'day all, firstly I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I was just reflecting on things, and whilst I have a good brain for some things when it comes it 'making' things I guess one could say that I am rather 'mechanically challenged'.

Yet I have made a few things that I am quietly proud of, mostly electronics/Ham Radio stuff. I have designed and built a couple of VHF Ham Radio yagi's that have actually been copied/made by other Ham Radio operators around the world so I guess that is the ultimate compliment, and my various DIY phono stages and allied stuff that I am also rather proud of. What are yours? Regards, Felix (vk4fuq) aka catman.

Loads of stuff... in no particular chronological order...

Car electronic ignition systems x2
Stereo amplifier x1 - from plans & schematic in magazine.
Aerial booster pre-amps - a few (TV & 2m)
Heathkit GDO, 1 x valve
2m VHF Valve transmitter, 2 valves. (crystal controlled, later VFO controlled) :smoke:
2m Power amplifier, 40w, 1 valve (using QQV-06-40A) :smoke:
12Mhz VFO for the above. (5 transistors & varicap diode) :smoke:
Colour Organ - 3 channel, 3Kw using thyristors.
Light dimmer - using triac.
Bench PSU 3-30v 2A with current limiting.
Random sound effects box.
Air Ioniser
Digital clock (SS but using Nixie tubes).

And quite a few others that never made it past the 'birds nest' stage :)

Guess which ones I am proud of :)

G'day mate, that's quite a list! I built a CDI (capacitor discharge ignition) kit for my father's car once. It worked well, with a big healthy spark, but the inverter produced a whistle like a jet about to take off. My dad didn't mind, as he called it his 'DC-9', with pride! Hi Felix, Besides re building a few Magnavox vacumm tube (valve) amplifiers with the generous help of my fellow AKers, I enjoy building/replacing a set of stairs with the proper geometry. Something no one really notices until the stumble on a poorly executed set. Doors that are installed correctly and properly working are another one. Just a mild case of being a OCD in regards to ergonomics, I guess.

Well, I've designed a prototype for a home/garden gadget that I applied for a utility patent, but the second stage was going to cost too much for me. The lawyer didn't explain that to me at the onset. Hmmm!

But, I will keep it alive in my plans & as soon as funds grow again I will try once more.

G'day all, Philo426 that boat is beautiful. I wish I could build something like that, but I don't have the skills (at all). My brother could though, as he loves messing around with wood turning and such. Regards, Felix aka catman.
