Hi- I'm hoping that someone can point me to where I can purchase a good pdf of the service manual for this preamp. I've found a couple of places on the web where I downloaded a free copy (thanks hi-fi engine) but they all seem to be from the same scan, and unfortunately the quality fails when I try to zoom into fine detail on the schematic.

Previously, I have used OBSInc for my 717 and BA-F1, but the c-2101 is not in their inventory.

I would prefer a direct download of the purchased file since I am trying to get some parts ordered and am reluctant to wait for a disc or printed manual to arrive via the USPS.

I thought I got mine from HiFiengine. It looks great printed out. I think the PDF is on my work computer.

Is there a certain part of the schematic you need to see? I could look at mine.

I will try to scan the schematic and zoom in to see if it would be usable.

If it is, I will let you know.

Well, it's a 13 meg one page PDF file.

It is not great.

The pdf I downloaded from HiFi Engine shows up as a 4meg file and the other one I found was a 13meg file. They both appear to be the same scan, both showing what looks likes an eraser smudge on the upper right corner of the title page.

On these files, when I magnify, I have trouble discerning some of the symbols- for example, in the schematic for the r-ch eq, ic11 and ic12 both have the parentheses notation for a polypropylene film cap, but the symbol itself is unclear. It looks like the one for a polystyrene, but I can't be sure.

I know that the Sansui manuals can be error prone, so I hate to add unreadability to the mix as a I try to figure stuff out.

My other manuals are pristine, although it is interesting that this is the one that indicates the signal path and feedback loop, while neither my 717 or BA-F1 manuals have that illustrated.

That's the same manual I have, with the "smudge".

I will get the big magnifier out and see if I can make it out.
I printed it with a very good laser printer.
I'll let you know.

Right now I'm trying to figure out what the symbol is that is notated with ir24 and 25 on the eq board. They are designated 1/2 watt on the left channel, but there is a symbol next to them on the right channel that I can't make out- looks like a box with a cross in it....

I'm looking at upgrading the resistors in the signal path when I recap this unit and want to make sure that I don't buy any incorrect expensive parts.

And while I'm scrounging for info, any recommendations from anyone on replacements for 1/3 w (!) resistors? Should I just step up to 1/2 watt?

Okay, a quick trip out to the garage and I see that the ir24 and 25 resistors are the blue non-flammable type, so I guess the blurry symbol is the box with a dot in it that is on the legend for n.i.r. resistors.

Sure doesn't look like that symbol when magnified, but I have to assume that it is.

I also see on the eq board that resistors 29-31 appear to be the cylindrical carbon composition resistor type. A little curious for this era- a deliberate sonic choice?

I currently have a couple of copies that I downloaded, both apparently from the same scan. It doesn't look too bad until you magnify enough to read some of symbols on the schematic.

I see you have this preamp x3. Nothing wrong with having spares!

I'm going to recap mine, hopefully upgrade the signal/feedback resistors, and also trade out the volume pot for a motorized version that I located. It's not the same black box type, but it is a 100K Alps with the loudness tap, so I have high hopes. I've used it intermittently for a few years and really like the way it sounds, and because it has a single stage volume pot (unlike my AU-717 that I currently use as a pre) the upgrade to remote is a little more straightforward.

Yes, that is one of the places I downloaded from. I also downloaded from HiFi Engine, which is the same scan. This scan has a big smudge on the cover page.
