Well obviously like me, you too don't have a clue. I wanted to know as I had bought one and was waiting for it to arrive. I just like knowing things like what components make a seperate 'sing it's little heart out'. So I've got it, and boy oh boy is it small. I thought it was a sony cd walkman at first. Well ok, maybe an exaggeration but it sure is small. Maybe even cute. Actually, cute is a perfect description. It's not got an easy to remove top box like most seperates. In fact it unbolts from the bottom, which means i've got to turn it upside down to get in to it. Also, there's a large screw in the middle which makes me think that undoing this may undo something inside that could be a PITA to put back. I've only just got it so I'm afraid to say that, well, I suppose i'm afraid to say i'm afraid. So it will stay in 'togetherness' for now.
Ok, plugged it in and wired it through my Sansui amp and it's god damn bloody awsome! I've just been listening to Fleetwood Mac(Lindsay and Stevie lineup) because they are a group I've listened to in near to every format existing now or ever. It's definitely a major step up from my Technics SL-PG440A with it's well respected MASH 1 bit DA converter. After listening to the Sony for an hour, the Technics suddenly sounds too 'tinny' and actually got to annoy me when previously i've really enjoyed it's sound. Reads CD-R's, even one that the Technics gave up on due to a not insubstantial scratch.
Happy camper. But gosh it's so small it's hard to believe it can produce the sound it does. I reckon it's a third of the size of a standard cd player if you was to measure the square inches of each player. 8.5"(W) x 9.5"(D) x 2"(H). That's small, but oh so cute. Compare that to my Technics. 17"(W) x 10.5"(D) x 3"(H).
Still, I'd love to know what DAC this contains.
