c29

william13

That's not me
so I have a project.
just hooked up the ebay c29 with powers up and is very quiet. In fact no amplification at all. when i hook my cd player to it and the c29 to the mc300 i can hear soft music playing through the speakers. when i put the c29 off the music continues. Verdict? What are the top three possibilities?

Hmmm.... seems to be 'too quiet'. What inputs have you tried. Is it only the Aux 1 or is it all the inputs. Do you have the OM so you know that you have the switch positions set correctly, including the buttons on the front? The C29 is my favorite McIntosh solid-state preamp. The possibility exists that it is simply telling you that it wants to visit Knoxville. ;)

Yes volume completely up and bottoms pushed right. I love to solder and wonder if the power supply capacitor can allow lights on but no amplification

Need more details to help narrow down the culprit:

- I assuming the panel lights are on as expected, correct?
- What are the positions of the buttons? Specifically, any of the tape monitor/loop buttons. They should not be engaged.
- What results do you get from the headphone jack? Plug a set in a see if you've got audio from the headphones with the CD player properly hooked up to an AUX or CD input.
- If you've gotten this far with no sound, then you're going to need to pull the skins and do some visual inspection for cables and fuses that may be blown. Post pics of what you find and others will be able to help you further.

Also, if you're planning on working on it yourself, you'll need a digital voltmeter.

Cheers,

David

Also, confirm hat you have the MC300 properly configured. Do I remember correctly that it has gain pots on the back?

I certainly will post pics and I will follow your other suggestions. I believe I have the 300 configured but will double check

Hi Dave:

I did not get sound out of earphone jack on the rt front but I got sound out of "tape out" on the bottom left front of unit. It sounded good. I got humming from earphone jacks.
