C30 troubles!

For the past year or more, I have experienced random static then drop out of the right channel. It wouldn't happen often or long enough to track down. This week I had the C30 running two amps and sets of speakers, they both lost the right channel. I tried moving the volume control, input switch, tape monitor and the mode selector, none seemed to have any effect on the dropping out. swapped IC, no change. Finally I removed the C30 from the system, just ran the Oppo into my MC2200's, and I haven't had any drop outs so I'm thinking something is wrong with my pre.

A friend is an electronics tech, though he doesn't work on stereo gear, he tests, calibrates, and fixes test equipment. He wants to take a look.

Does anyone have ideas about where and what to look for/test?

Should I just save time and send it to AC?

The unit was recapped by Terry D about 10 years ago.

Send to Audio Classics or an authorized McIntosh service center. Of all those from that era (C32, C33 C34 and then the C30), that one is the keeper. Actually not much inside that unit compared to a C32 or others. Just for giggles........ take off the top of the unit and with a wooden probe or plastic probe, just press on the boards and see if anything happens. Also try a set of headphones to see if you get R + L . I have had them all and that is my favorite. (I never used those on board monitor amps of the other C3X units anyway. Good Luck.
