C33 Phono Buzz Question

Hi All,

I have succesfully taken care of the headphone problem I had with my new [to me] C33 but now I have another issue.

I am using the C33 with a Rega P2 turntable and an MC 2105 amp. I am getting a bit of a 'buzz' out of the left channel when using the phono section. The Rega does not have a separate ground wire but is grounded through the left input plug. Connecting a wire from the C33 ground to the left phono jack does not make a difference.

None of these components have a polarized plug and I have had some success reducing the buzz by turning the plugs but a trace still remains. Would it help to plug everything into a power strip that has 3 prongs? Does anyone have any other suggestions on grounding the C33? I had previously used this turntable with an Adcom preamp and did not have this issue.

Do you have the shorting plugs in the unused phono input? I heard you could pick up some noise from the other phono input if the shorting plugs are not used.

I had that happen to me on my C34... The phone board is same as the C33 but with only one phone section, just the parts not put in. It was a bad IC. If you know how to take it apart, you can replace it yourself. Make sure you get the low noise version (NE5534ANG). I think the IC is about $1.50 at our local electronic store. If you do not know how to take it apart, send it to Terry.

BTW, do you need a picture of the phone board?

I even stock the NE5534ANG, this is the most common failure in the C33 and 34, they do not like a static hit, especially when the phono is plugged in on a cool dry day while standing on a wool carpet...
