C4 & M4 Initial Impression.

Cleaned up the M4 this afternoon. Cleaned switches, level pots, replaced the lamps, blew out the dust, and wiped the crap off of the outside.

Other than the T1 tuner and my yet to be located turntable I'm left with digital. My old California Audio Labs Icon mk2 CD player into a Dac magic that a friend gave me after he upgraded.

Then the big question... What to play?? When in doubt (which I was) I went with Sgt Pepper. Pretty happy with the choice all in all.

I love the thing! Still need to do the C4 lamps and look into the Aux rca jacks but pretty nice. Wanna try the CD player direct in as I remember the internal dac being pretty good. These JBL Pro speakers are fair at best but have a pair of A/D/S pickled in plastic wherever the turntable is. That should be an improvement.

Thank you guys for your help and advise. You never yelled at me and for that I'm grateful.

Red power buttons ! :yikes: LOL....
Look at all those colors for the big buttons is what I thought.

Don't feel bad, avionic didn't care for my white LEDs in the two green buttons on the C4 compared to his, the green was a bit off...This is Original and Correct that he showed. At least I didn't reveal that until after he had helped me get my C4 fully working with a recap. Great info from him on that.

It's a good bet that Avionic has melted a far amount of solder. It's guys like him that keep these magnificent beasts out of the scrap pile.

I had ordered the bulbs and condoms for both units. I did the M4 but they show up as yellowish rather than green. The old covers were salvageable and may put them back on. Problem is, when I do the C4 lights they won't match. The yellowish look is still an improvement over red/blue in my book.

Hey congrats on the M4/C4! My first personal Yamaha home listening experience was with an absolutely mint M4/C6 combo some 25+ years ago. I remember how pleasantly surprised I was by them and how the M4 went totally under the radar back then. I enjoyed the amp so much that got a second and then a third one that I reconditioned for backup duty that I never needed. I also reconditioned 4 others for other people. I became a total Yamaha convert there after and still am to this day albeit the M4's have long since moved on for others to enjoy. :)

Thanks for the he thoughts guys! I'll get those lights right as soon as I shut this thing off!

I hadn't really been in the market for a Yamaha, it kinda found me. I was thinking more a big Sansui or Marantz receiver. Seperates were something I'd thought about but that was pretty much all. Friend of a friend's friend had the M4, C4, and a T1 for sale and I heard about it. Read a bit on here and grabbed it. Actually really glad I did because I think I'll be happier with this set-up than I'd have been with just a receiver. I've got more options now and this sounds awesome.

I did pull out my ADS L470/2s from the day and the obligatory ads rusted woofer syndrome had settled in and had loosened the surrounds from the metal basket. The sticky tweeters were pushed in a little and crap stuck to them as well. I could have "fixed" them but sent them out to Richard So to be FIXED.

It's a work day in progress along with the other projects. In the meantime, I have tunes.
