Yamaha receiver series of the time (CR-X00 and CR-X20) have the continuously-variable Loudness control, as did my CA-810. Why not the CA-2010? Something to do with Class A operation? Just curious...
It was designed to appeal to a more serious clientele. Probably better to wonder why it had rather complex tone controls on board - probably just a consequence of the prevailing "sensibilities" of its era.
