CA-F1 vs AU-919 (or 717) preamp

Ah - now I see... AFAIK the BA-F1 is not nearly so prone to self immolation as the AU-919, but un-reconditioned you won't be hearing it at its best.

If I were in your position - much as I like the AU-919, I would sell one and use the money to fund the re-con of the BA-F1. Then use the BA-F1 / CA-F1 combination, then have either the CA-F1 or the AU-919 re-conned when you can afford it - and so on.

I have an AU-919 which I have reconditioned apart from the main PSU capacitors - these are definitely on the to-do list when I can afford it. There are one or two other things that I would like to revisit in the '919 at the same time to properly finish it off, but at the moment I am enjoying it very much.
Sorry to bring up an old postbut hyperion I did not know you also had Baf1 and 919 models too. So how do they compare in pleasing you against your most beloved and famous D11II.
I'm in the process of acquiring Baf1 with caf1 too.
Hence the dig up of threads about them. I also have the 707x (d11ii) .

Neither the CA-F1 or the BA-F1 were mine, I only had them fairly briefly for reconditioning, I do still have my AU-919 and my AU-D11 II (of course). The BA/CA combination were lovely - especially after reconditioning, I can't remember any specifics, suffice to say the combination was equal to either the '919 or the 'D11 II, if I remember correctly. And also remember that to sound its best, if you get one, it will need to be properly reconditioned. ;)

Note that my comments in this thread (apart from the above post), were made some time before I had seen and heard the CA/BA units, so what I said was what I had gleaned from other discussions on AK.

Oh well i do have a quality tube amp. But no caf1 as the owner didnot know his items. He mentioned he had a processor that i thought would be caf1 but it turned out it was a rotel 966 processor (yikes).

Its a bit underwhelming to learn that the BAF1 cannot surpass the performance of 919 or D11II. Heck im still gonna buy it.
