I'd start in the 9 ft3 area if that size isn't obtuse for you. I think if you have a sub you could go smaller. The Beatles had around 6 ft3 enclosures, they had pretty good ears. They are going to sound good. The 604 gurus will be around shortly.
I had my 604Es bi amped in no cabinet with a sub and they sounded pretty good without a cabinet

It's great to see another 605B owner! I stumbled upon a pair in some smallish cabinets. It would be nice to put them in some larger ones some day. Keep us updated!

They are in black vinyl wrapped wood cases with black mesh fronts. There's not much to see, but I will work on taking some pics, at least from the insides. I had to put new level pots in the crossovers, and I plan to recap them. They sounded great the last time I played them! Very open and smooth.

Lol! Unfortunately space is limited, and I risk my own safety if I keep them in the living room for very long. The garage is nice though! I will definitely work on it. I bought new caps a few months ago.You relegated your 605s to the garage?Spice up the cabinets and bring them inside.
Better yet Elvis, who was better recorded than the Beatles. 605s put Elvis right in the room; I suppose only RCA LC1s would do Elvis better.

I think the 612 cabinet is a good compromise. Big enough but not too big. I had a pair that I built from the Altec plans that sounded pretty good with a variety of woofers I put in them. Eventually I got some 620 cabinets for my 604s and they do go lower in those, but they sounded pretty good in the 612 cabs too.
You could use the 612 cab and port size and make them as fancy or plain as you want.

A kick ass performance, Elvis was the Man. What I band; I dig Ron Tutt, I assume that was James Burton on lead.
I run my 605a's in 620 cabs that I made from 3/4 inch MDF.

In the right enclosure a 604 is my Favorite Altec speaker. But the 605's I dealt with when working for an Altec dealer made in the 60's was no slouch. I would say 9 to 10 cu feet also. When we had a cabinet shop that the size we would use. Yes they were ported and we hung a curtain behind the speaker in addition to get a tighter bass sound which probably compromised the woofers over all out put level a bit. But they had an adjust able crossover. Placed near a corner the bass output really improved and was quite or should say very dynamic. Remember the speakers are only rated around 30 watts and that HF diaphragm is very delicate. About 14 watts RMS un attenuated is about it. I loved the sound using the little MC -30's or MC 225 power amps. life was simple back then. A nice integrated amp Scott 222C or 299D, a 350 or 310 tuner and a turntable and you were ready to go. A R2R tape machine was a real luxury back in the mid 60's. It was for me at least. I think I paid $540 for MY Fine Line F-4460 in a portable case. That was

HI! I reading this old thread, hoping to decide if the cabinets below would be worth adapting to my 605b's. They are homemade, apparently built from the plans for the JBL C-34. I'm selling the drivers because nobody seems interested in the homemade cab. I'm thinking of modifying them for the Altec. This involve removing most of the internal structures and creating a new baffle. The are 6.8 ft³ internally (minus the scoop at the bottom, which I may keep.)
