Calling all GTE/Sylvania's!

Someone does.
No, I don't think they do! LoL

----

rocdad my only connection is that my dad had an RQ-4747 and four AS-105B's which I grew up on. Unfortunately his receiver broke in the late '90s and my brother and I turned it into parts. :( Now it's just my growing collection. I've never seen one catch fire but I did burn out a diode and two resistors on the B+ line feeding the right front channel of my RQ-3748, I was pushing it pretty hard and I'm sure I was over the rated power output however. It did start working again with the dead parts before I turned it off FWIW, sounded fine, but I doubt it was good for it! LOL

MarkAnderson even small they have a big presence imo, very nice work on them!

rgrjit8 those are definitely worth repairing IMHO. But if you don't want to I'd be could be interested in a road trip to take them off your hands. ;)

Here's some pics of the GTE-412's from eBay ages ago. They're 120watts RMS iirc.

More goodies from eBay. A pair of AS-105W's (1971) and AS-105W-2's (1972), all need new foam and one needs a recone. Now I'm short two of those dang woofers instead of one since my AS-105B's need one too. :p: Woofers are all the same CTS drivers, same 432 made mid-range in each and tweeters in the -2's, the AS-105W has either foster or fostex tweeters I forget which logo was on the back. The AS-105W's were rated for 75 watts IHF max and the -2's at 65 watts RMS max.

No one knows.

Apparently, code "432" was never officially registered with the EIA... or it it was, it wasn't ever put in any sort of public directory.

No database I've found, ANYWHERE, has a reference to 432 as an EIA code... so, until one is found that does reference it, it's gonna just be an unknown...

Regards,
Gordon.

I also have a pair of Sylvania AS83W 'S 8" foam woofer(rotted) & tweeter. My pair are in storage...sorry no picture! I found them for $5.00,at a thrift store. I bought them for the nice wooden boxes...in excellent shape! I planned to put a pair of 8" energy woofers ,in the boxes. I bought 10 seperate Energy woofers, over about a year...on Ebay.

Back in 1975 I purchased a pair of AS-3710 Sylvania Speakers and ran them with a Pioneer SX 636 receiver and Technics Turntable. The sound was quite good and I enjoyed the set up. The speakers were air suspension and had decent bass and overall were very listenable at the time as I recall. Enjoy

There are a few models those could be, if you ever got some pics I could probably tell you. :)

Picked up a set of AS225As today. I was going to post some pics in this thread, but accidentally posted them HERE instead. Oh well, c'est la vie I suppose.

Anyone know where I can find a surround replacement kit for these?

The CTS drivers in most these Sylvania/GTE speakers look just like the ones Altec had OEM'd for them in their cheaper speakers in the 70's, I bet they sound pretty similar.

Just bought a pair of AS-61W speakers from the original owner. He said he bought them in 1970. Heavy, solid build, real veneer finish - they were a very pleasant surprise all around. Sound FAR better than they have a right to.

Back in 1976 a buddy of mine worked for the telephone company and could buy Sylvania at a discount. I purchased a Sylvania RQ-4748 (IIRC) Quad Receiver. It was a nice unit but I eventually gave it to a neighbor when one channel went out.

See quote above...

No speakers but have a Sylvania receiver and that's actual glass on the front. And still have a working 20" Sylvania Superset.

I've got a pair of AS225A, a four way, very large bookshelf, or floor standing speaker, very heavy, has toggle switches on back for boost and cut various parts of frequency spectrum. I refoamed woofers, and replaced the caps in the crossovers, and they sound just fine. These are acoustic suspension type speakers.

Well, it only took a hair over four years of extremely passive searching, but I finally located a matched set of original tweeters in proper condition for my AS225As. The speakers are stowed away in the corner of the basement currently but at some point this weekend they will at last be properly resurrected! Thank science for eBay. Patience has prevailed.
