Cambridge Audio Azur 650C & Other Budget CD Players

Art, a few days back I opened up a new Audio Advisor catalog that came in the mail and saw a picture of the Apollo R for the first time. I had no idea how small it is! I can't think of another CD player I've seen that's that small, but is still a top-loader. It almost looks comparable in size to the older Audio Note CDT-Zero transport.

It's a cute little bugger isn't it? It'll have an uphill battle against this fabulous TEAC!
 
Oh what good news! My wife's CA 650C bit the dust this morning. We were getting ready to hop in the car to drive to Portland to pick up my replacement Apollo-R and my wife was playing a CD...she hit stop and waited a couple of seconds and hit open and the drawer opened and there was no disc. She hit close and it hasn't opened since. All we get is "Error"! What a mess...will send an email to CA service and pay a **** load for shipping to send it off to the east coast....did I mention that the rubber from one of the feet fell off as I was taking it out of the room!
 
have not heard any of the cd players you have in your list , I have owned and heard the nad c521bee,sony c190,technics slp-770 and also a few pioneers. I ended up using a Sony Playstation 1 with the rca outputs in my main system.I dont know why but the sound just grew on me, You should give one a try just for kicks.
 
Put the Rotel RCD 971 back into service in my wife's office and found just the right mix of cables for an excellent sound. Going to send the 650C off for warranty service and upon it's return we will sell it and use the proceeds to restore the Rotel to factory spec and use it until I can put a new DAC in my wife's office and use the Rotel as a transport. Probably buy an entry level Sim DAC as it's a wonderful performing DAC at a nice price. My next move in my setup is a Rega DAC.
