Cambridge Audio P70X, any information?

Hello all,

I recently dug up this old Cambridge Audio P70X. However, there seems to be no information available on this amplifier. I hope to inquire about its place in the P-series lineup and everything from general brochures to service manuals is very much appreciated!

I have in the past repaired a Cambridge Audio P50, which looks suspiciously like this one. On the inside, however, the amplifiers are - although the layout, again, is remarkably similar - a little different. This one has bigger caps, different transistors (although there seem to be some modifications so these may well be one of them) and a bigger transformer.

As a guest, Audiokarma has helped me significantly. Now, as a poster, I hope to have lots of people commenting on whatever bits they know.

I'm sorry to see that no one has been able to comment yet, let's hope someone has any information. In the mean time, I found some more by noting all numbers on the circuit boards as well as a mysterious response from an ebay seller, stating: "Sounds great , and i someone told me there is a very rare model, like as an product test". On the inside the amp looks - in terms of layout - exactly the same as the Cambridge Audio P50 MK1. However, judging from some pictures on the internet, the capacitors are bigger and the transformer is bigger.

The main audio circuit board denotes 'CA PEQ 03'. There is also a sticker with '3541-010' on it and the serial number is 'D 700378'. I hope those numbers mean anything to anyone.

Along with the mysterious 'X' that I have not seen used elsewhere in the Cambridge Audio line-up and the rarity, the similar layout leads me to believe that the seller might actually be right.

You might post your questions on a UK forum. Much more Cambridge knowledge over there — and importantly, sources for parts. I had a Cambridge power amp years ago (model 70 or 75?) and it had the tightest bass I ever heard — alas, I overdrove it, and couldn't find replacement parts.

Hello Roy Vorster. Welcome to AK. Found a Service Manual for the P70 on HiFi Engine.com. Not sure of the differences between the P70 and P70X. But it might help. Just register and download for free. Good luck.

NAD80, thank you very much for your interest! However, this manual is for a later generation of Cambridge Audio amplifiers. Mine appears - from the outside and the inside - similar to the P50 MkI and not the P50 MkIII.
