Cambridge Audio R50

I've been away from here a while - something to do with having a son (who is now 6!).

Anyway, I'm spending a bit more time on my passion again now. I've just got a pair of Cambridge Audio R50 transmission line speakers, something I've always wanted to hear. Wow is all I can say. I've had some great speakers before, but these are something else.

Does anyone else have experience of these rare beasts? Will they sound better if I recap them?

Any advice will be gratefully received.

I don't have any experience with these speakers.

I just think you need to post pictures, asap :D
 
Forgot to answer recap, yes with polypropylene and resistors in tweeters signal path.
 
These things sound so amazing that I think I'll recap them later rather than sooner.

Overdriving them is something I am concerned about though. I'm running them off a 100 WRMS Kenwood amp, and having the volume just turned above zero gives adequate volume.... that can't be the best way to run an amp.

Would it be better to get a much less powerful amp that I could run at half volume?

I'll post pictures of them at the weekend, as I'm away working all week.
 
More likely to burn out a driver with lowered power amp due to clipping.

You just have to watch the cone excursion.

How loud due have the volume. Do you play more vinyl or cd?
 
I play CD only, and not at a huge volume. With the volume knob at about 8 oclock on the Kenwood it's too loud for comfort though, so I was thinking maybe a lower powered Sansui...

Hello Supermanu

im not sure where you are based, but in the UK, Falcon Acoustics and Wilmslow Audio both do upgraded crossovers for the R50 both using high quality components, the later does a bi wireable vesrion too....im using one in a copy pair of R50s im in the middle of completing - but modified with an extra B139 bass driver in the rear of the cabinet....pm me if you want more information etc
