Cambridge SoundWorks Model 6

They sound very good. Best Buy used to carry these year's ago when my dad was shopping for speaker's, and were both drawn to them. He ended up with a different Cambridge set up that he's quite happy with. I have a Cambridge Soundwork's 3 piece set up for my home office PC that I'm listening to now, and the midrange is so accurate, easily listen to it all day.

Wish they would come out with 2-way ten inch version of this rather laidback-sounding design, a relatively popular driver configuration until the late 90s (except for more upper mid-fi and hi-end brands). But I totally realize that with today's market most people, especially under age 30, would look at it much like they would a rotary-dial telephone. :(

Just a fun factoid: until about five years ago, the Model Six used to be sold with at least two other vinyl veneer finishes (IIRC walnut & beech) and one other grill cloth color. This model first debuted around 1989 & was designed by Henry Kloss himself, inventor of the acoustic-suspension system which this speaker also uses.

They used the real deal (veneer) for awhile. Huw Powell at Human speakers may still have a supply of those empty cabs.

$100 shipped for the Six is a fine value.

I tried these and returned them. I wasn't impressed. It seems like people hype them up because of Henry Kloss being involved. If I was limited to $100 I would hit Craigslist. There are some great deals if you're patient.

For a few more bucks, I'd get the Infinity Primus P162. I have yet to read a review of them that doesn't consider them a major bang-for-the-buck, at twice the price for what they are now available for online (~$160/pair).

I picked up a minty pair of the precursor P160's off of eBay for $50 and a local pickup. A truly excellent speaker for the price. Google the P162 a bit and I think you'll see some nice reviews and prices.

I have given away two sets of the CSW6's. Not because they sound bad, but they did not match up to the bigger receivers/amps.

The dj who got one set is quite happy with their sound running them with a Realistic receiver that put out 40 watts or so.

I think you will be wasting the big Pioneer.

Another two cents.

Villchur invented AS, not Kloss.... :nono:
Oops.

Uh......"Villchur" and "Kloss" sound a lot of alike...yea that's it!....so I gottem mixed up. :stupid:

Actually IIRC Kloss (who worked w/Villchur) was more or less the salesguy of the AS system, so I think of him first when this comes up.

I too would like to see CSW come out with a big box acoustic suspension loudspeaker system . When the CSW model six first came out I thought it was going to be the same size as the original KLH Model six speakers . They are nice sounding speakers though , especially at their price . Plus they image very well .

I had a $90 (refurbished) pair of CSW model 6 speakers.
Even after doing the Xover mod, my $160 Primus 162 speakers were still better.
Just my opinion, mind you?

I don't think there is a market - but they used to have some pretty impressive "tower" type home speakers. Dunno if they still do...?

About the only one making those kind of speakers that I know of is JBL with commercial oriented studio monitors.

CSW Model Sixes. I've had a pair for several years. Got them on sale, like mhardy, for $99 dollars; there is not much that can compete with these.

And in my opinion, they hold their own with many bookshelves in the $1000 a pair category if you're into this kind of sound. They even sound 'good' on brighter systems like the one I run them on: Adcom GFA-545, Nakamichi CA-5, Pioneer BDP-51fd. The Pioneer does a nice job with CDs and the Sixes can really pound on movies when they're close to a back wall, yet still have crystal clear mids and nice highs!

Get them while you can! One prioviso, they need good, clean, amplification to really shine!
