Cambridge SoundWorks Model 88 Service Manual

Spenser

Mostly Discrete
Know where I can get a copy? Users manual would be nice, too. Like to have both.

Picked up a Sangean WR-1. Love love love it. Was able to find service manual for it easy. Cambridge 88. Not so much. What's the story here. Maybe the proprietary back-and-forth between Cambridge and Tivoli. Phooey.

Don't even have the radio in my hot little hands and I want the schematic. What a goofball.

Now i have the radio. it's living up to its reputation. i like it a bunch. cute little remote. the radio is on my desk. right now playing is the allegheny drifters. tune called throw out the lifeline. gospel bluegrass. wow. tremendous.

I hear ya. I love mine. I have one on my nightstand that's being fed by an old Ipad running Pandora and TuneIn. Not that the FM is bad. It isn't. It's just that the selection here is, well, less than ideal. Were you able to locate a service manual?

Is it an 88CD?
Hey how's it going. Thanks for your reply. The user manual for the CD model is available online on HiFi Engine. Mine actually is the non-CD model.

Interesting feature (to me) is the 'Ramp up' volume. When you power up the radio, the volume comes on at a low level and gradually increase over a 10-second (or so), period to the set volume level, as a Proton 320 does when in 'alarm' mode. Very cool.

It is a nice little table radio, for sure! Sort of overshadowed by the Bose Wave radio. But, at least to me, the Cambridge Soundworks 88CD blows the Bose away. Although I do not use the alarm functions anymore because they are so complicated. I have my phone for that.

Manual attached.

Edit: I tested the below function and it does indeed work. The Cambridge Model 88 (while not a clock radio), has a "sleep function." Settings in ten minute increments up to maximum 100 minutes. I would never had known this were it not for "oldsculler" who kindly posted the quick setup manual.

Nice! I haven't tested yet but it would appear there is a function one would never know is there. It's a "turn off sleep mode" where you press and hold the off button and release when the desired lapsed time appears. d10=10 mins. d20=20 mins. etc. You da man. I'm OCD and always want the service manual AND the owners manual for everything. LOL. Edit: it also specifies the remote battery type which is helpful. 3 volt CR2032

Anyone come up with a good source for the Model 88 service manual? I acquired an inop unit that is in a semi-basket case condition. The AM/FM tuner works and the output is thru the main speakers only. There is sound output from the headphone jack when connected. The Subwoofer, AUX, and CD channels are dead. I split the cases and found all 'two-wire' connectors loose. Someone was adding an internal FM antenna spool but the job didn't finished. I'm looking for a wiring diagram instead of playing a guessing game to hook up the boards. I don't want to fry anything that hopefully isnt already. Hell, a couple of pictures of the internals of a working unit would get me going in the right direction. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks----Craig

Never tried any further to track down service manual.

I am working on thinning my stock of audio equipment. Just now got this one out. Blew off the dust. Started taking the pictures...

Uh oh. Sounds too good. Looks too good. So very cool--the features.

Not selling.

Hello. I know this is very old. I recently acquired a used Model 88. The FM works well. The aux in and RCA in both have a low buzzing sound and the audio plays, but it is barely audible. Super low volume, needing to put ear up to a speaker.

I am suspecting an internal grounding issue.

Can you elaborate on how you opened it up? Are there tabs?

Thanks!
