Cambridge Soundworks Model Six

early on CSW included 100ft of 18g speaker cable, a pair of wire stripper/cutters and rubber feet for all the speakers in the box and offered a 30 day IN HOME TRIAL.

The 30 day trial is what sold me on buying my Ensemble 1 set. It was so impressive opening up that box and seeing all of the other things they included, the speaker wire, great manual, feet, etc. Spent the whole weekend comparing them to some JBL's.

Off topic, but what is that black rack mountable piece you have?

At the moment I'm really counting out all vintage speakers. Maybe I'd go lightly used.

I'm beginning to really look forward to selling my crap and getting a pair of these :)

Just something else to consider - the Infinity Primus line is supposed to be well regarded. Crutchfield is selling the 162/163 for around the same price as these 6's. I couldn't tell you which sounds better but maybe someone here has heard both. Good luck on whatever choice you make and please post your experiences back here.

I may have a line on an American made used pair of these, thanks to a kindly AK'er in another state :D

I'd look at Pioneer's new line of speakers as well, the one's they sell at Best Buy with the curved cabinets.

These CSW speakers are closer in size to the KLH 17 than the Six. Maybe CSW 17 didn't sound as iconic.

Enjoying my newly acquired sixes...

I am still a "budget audiophile"- ("Sure you can build a great system for $10,000, but look what I did for one-hundred bucks!") Anyway, I just purchased a pair of the sixes off of eBay for around $100 including shipping. They blend well, are voiced very similarly, (and have similar efficiency: around 90dB), to the old Boston Acoustic A-60s I am using as my back pair in the living room. The sixes replaced some less than desirable (even after upgrading the woofer) in-wall speakers I had used as the front pair. Bottom line- I highly recommend them. That they are neutral is highly complimentary in this instance. While I am using them with two subwoofers, even so, I can tell the difference in the mid-bass from the old in-wall speakers. They image well (as stated earlier) and it's not one of those speakers that has, say, an excellent high end but the rest is so-so, they have a consistent pleasant sonic quality from octave to octave. A friend recently asked me to build some speakers, I actually told him to buy these (used) instead as I couldn't beat the value! Yes, they aren't Ferraris: but there's nothing wrong with a good Mustang!:thmbsp:

The Pioneers John mentioned are getting lots of good press and they're pretty inexpensive.

The very small CSW 17 makes an excellent bench test speaker. They're a tad bright for my taste, but not bad with respect to any reasonable set of expectations.

I always leave out the seventeens. CSW needed a stand alone bookshelf speaker to replace the $300/$400 Ambiance. They went with a low cost solution that could be used to replace the speakers that came with mini-systems or paired with the lower end receivers they were selling. The seventeens are a pretty nice little speaker. Similar to the RDL Acoustics Micro Reference which is another favorite along with the EPI M-50.
