Cambridge Soundworks radios: 88/88CD vs 730/740

I bought a used Cambridge Soundworks Radio 740 a while back and ended up selling it because I was disappointed in its sound. Has anyone owned the 730, 740 or later models, as well as the original 88 or 88CD models? Which are better? I've seen some people say that the 88 sounded better.

I have an opportunity to buy an 88 and was wondering if it will be better than the 740.
