Can an Inductor's mH be calculated from length of wire??

I have a non working low pass woofer inductor and am trying to find out its value. The core is iron and is about 1/4" in diameter.

It is from a 80's era Advent 1008 (2 way/8" woofer). I did unroll it trying to find any fractures, etc and never found the source of why it wont work. Length of the wire is 240" and seems to be 20 gauge.

Can anyone tell me the mH of this inductor??

Any help??

Thanks!

Probably. But you can get one of those multi-testers that test caps, resistors, transistors, inductors etc. for about $35 shipped from China. I was nervous about buying one, thinking I'd never see my money again. Instead, it arrived within a week, and works fine. Just search eBay for MK168 and you'll see it (that's the part number, not the user ID).

Lee.

Calculating inductances from physical measurements is an art form. Radius, length, number of turns are needed for an approximation along with exactly what material the core is made of. A lot easier to measure it.
