Can anyone identify these vintage Sony speakers?

I'm looking at these, apparently great-sounding, Sony speakers of some nice vintage, but the seller doesn't know which Sony model they are because the sticker seems to be missing.

Here's the picture... Does anyone have any clue as to which Sony this might be and if they are worth seeking out? He says they are rated 100 Watts.

PS. He wants $50 for the pair.

Just guessing based on the size of the badge, they are fairly modest sized. And while I'm not a Sony expert at all, I can't think of any of their small speakers that is particularly notable. Probably perfectly nice, but you don't need to spend 50 bucks to get perfectly nice speakers. So I wouldn't feel desperate to snag them -- if you want, go listen to them, and then decide, keeping in mind that there are always speakers showing up up at tag sales and Craigs list.

I have a pair of mid 70s sonys that have tags and still dont know anything about them besides 3 way with horn tweeters 50 watt. Sony couldnt find info on them. So...as mentioned, go listen if you can, may be sleepers, may be just so so, but certainly not the last pair of speakers youll ever see for the price.

I hear that vintage Sony speakers sound terrific and are well-made, so that's why I asked.

The price does seem a little on the high side and also it's a bit of a drive for me to get out there to see them.

Basically, what I have in my system right now are Paradigm Mini Monitors v.4, Polk CS2 reference (center), and Infinity US-1 surrounds... I am very happy with the Paradigms, I like Polk CS2 also (if slightly on the bright side), and I was thinking about trying some full-sized speakers instead of the little Infinitys.

Heck, I might even be curious to see how some of these vintage speakers stack up against the Paradigms but I'm sure they could also contribute nicely as surrounds, if anything.

I do want to make sure that the vintage I go for is really something worthwhile because I don't have a whole lot of space to store a "collection".... Haha.

More information emerged:

These are hard-wired in the back.

Does this mean they came from a package system of some sort? I have to say I don't favor that.

I have a sony speaker that looks similar to that, but maybe a 4" or 5". I think that I wouldn't drive anywhere for another pair like I've got, but I've never heard any other vintage Sony.

They must have some good ones!

hardwired in the back does seem a little scary doesnt it? Though, have some big telefunkens that came as such, and they seem to qualify as a fairly substantial mid fi speaker. But then they were 10 bucks for the pair and I was already standing there staring at them. Capiche?

There are a few vintage Sony speakers that are exceptional, but by and large most of them are just fair to middling. But, the true test of a speaker is how they sound to YOU. If possible, give them a listen before committing to buy.

This brightness can be tamed, if not cured, by placing a dense foam doughnut shaped ring around the tweeter. As a cheap experiment, you could trim a piece of carpet mat (used as a padding material under wall to wall carpets) and see if that helps. Use rubber cement.
