Can anyone identify these?

Someone is asking 50 bucks for the pair and know nothing at all about them. They look home made. Anyone identify the drivers? Should I pick them up for 50 bucks as a gamble?

Nothing terribly special here looking at the backs of the drivers. Typical stereo console drivers, fairly lightweight Alnico magnets. They might sound OK for a garage system (but not for $50 IMO). Unless you need them I'd hold out for better speakers.

Drivers typical of (non-horn-containing) Magnavox hifi consoles, e.g., of the late 1950s. The speakers could be stereo add-ons for transitional era (two piece) consoles, or just repurposed console drivers in - whatever - boxes.

Not garbage, but nothin' special, either.
I'd question my own sanity if I spent fiddy bucks for such, though.

Thanks for the input guys. Guess im going to pass on these. They looked kinda cheap to me but im far from an expert.

Those 15 inch woofers are terrific for open baffle applications combined with tube amps, they usually are 4 ohm drivers and are super efficient. Whether they are worth $50 or not is up to you but they most certainly are to many people.

I'm going to throw a low ball offer for them and see if I can get them for 25-30 bucks. They'd be worth it for that even if they don't sound great. They could always be used as coffee tables or speaker stands :naughty:

You know they actually are likely to sound better than you'd think. I have a two-piece Magnavox console unit with a very similar, if not the same driver compliment and When I hooked up a separate tube preamp and amplifier I was quite surprised at how good they did sound. If and when I restore the console electronics I'll replace the speaker capacitors as well. I pulled a set of the woofers out of a different console unit and I have a pair of the horn drivers from yet another console. My garage runneth over. :D

I'd answer back, "A polite 'no thanks' would have sufficed. Does your mother know you talk like that to perfect strangers?"

You are better off without them rather than dealing with that guy. They are Lo-Fi anyway and a dime a dozen.
