Can anyone tell me about this amp?Yamaha GFD-1.

The GFD-1 is the driver stage of the GF-1. GF-1 could be connect by XLR but there is an additional binding post for driver stage to connect and drive the four power amp.

GFD-1 could be use as a 100W class A power amp alone. GFD-1 could be a driver stage when connect to a GF-1.

Welcome to AK. It's not often that we get an emergency here.

I would doubt that many GFD-1s ever were sold let alone made it out of Japan. Have you had experience with the GFD-1 /GF-1?

I think I found us a set of GF1's for sale - though I'm a little unsure if this company finds what you are looking for or if they actually have a set in stock. Anyway, take a look for the pictures alone its worth a visit -

There are some great close up's of the built in amps on the back of the speakers.

Russian website. The photos are from HiFiDo in Japan. The website neither stocks nor finds. The Russian website just displays photos that it gets from wherever.

Well 'merge that is a remarkable amp/speaker combination. :thmbsp:

Since you are probably on one of the only threads in the English langauge about this particular combination, and since I started this thread - I'll ask you to give us some insight as to how the Yammie GFs compare to what you've heard before.

The GFs have the highest clarity and definition with compare to any systems I have listened to(I would say I listen to a lot...coz Hong Kong is crowded with lots of audiophiles). They provide excellent sound stage. They do not sound sweet or warmth, someone might find it harsh when compare to tube.

Personally, I like them a lot, coz the GFs just reflect all the pros and cons of your source. Better the source, better the sound.(I tried Denon DCD SA-1, Marantz SA-7, Esoteric X-01 limited, Weiss Dac1 and currently settle on Weiss Medea+).

The system which I consider to sound closed to the GFs is an Adam active systems(should be the Tenor series) in a Hifi show.

Your comment about the Active Adams is interesting.

I use active studio monitors as my speakers and your description of how the GFs reflect the good and the bad of the Source rings exactly true with my experience of my speakers.

Ultimately, if one has a great Source the results are bliss. :thmbsp:

The converse would also apply. :sigh:

Reviving a very old thread here, but I just saw this. The GF-1 speakers have 2 sets of inputs: Balanced XLR and amp level binding posts. If you want to play the GF-1, you would normally power up two very large and very heavy boxes, each with 4 transformers, that's 8 total transformers in 2 boxes. Powering up the speakers, you hear a series of relays click on, this is switching between the binding post/crossovers (default input) and the integrated amps. Each of these transformers has 4 power cords that go to the 4 built-in amplifiers on the back of each of the GF-1 speakers. So 2 speakers needs 2 power cords and 8 transformer cords triggering 8 relays to get them playing. Then you can use the XLR inputs for audiophile listening. If you want a more casual listening experience, you can use the binding posts on the back and use the GFD-1 Pre/amplifier. The complexity of running 8 amplifiers is reduced to a single power cord/transformer box along with an integrated pre-amp. So effectively, the GFD-1 gives you a audiophile like listening experience without the complexity of running 8 amps, and it makes a lot more sense than it may sound.
