Can anyone tell me what this component is on my TT?

Hi AK, I just got this TT as I mentioned in a another post, it's a Sanyo TP 825D. The manuals I found online don't even show this corner piece anywhere in the component list and images, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what its function is. Can anyone tell me?

It might be a holder for a spare headshell. You can easily change out headshells and cart and just store the unused one in the holder. See if your headshell fits in it.
 
Well, for those of us that were around as teenagers back in the seventies and owned allot of equipment. Memorex and other companies made a long brush with a record cleaning fluid applicator that attached from the outside stud that is pictured to the center of the platter. You had to remove and replace each time a record was changed. The device never was very popular except by the audiophile crowd because they were inconvienient and would break and snap off at the outside stud.

That's what your looking at...a broken peice holding onto the outside stud !!
 
Thanks for the replies everyone, the unit already has two head shell holders on the other side, so definitely an after market attachment for an arm of some sort! Upon closer inspection it was only on there with double sided adhesive so I was able to get it off cleanly.
 
Looks like the original Dust Bug post. I remember it as being a black base and a clear plastic post to hold the metal rod, most of which is missing in that photo.
