Can anything play four 6ohm speakers?

I currently have 4 DCM TimeFrame 600s. They are rated 6 ohms. I love the sound and think they're great overall. I play them with my Pioneer SA9500II.

However, on the back of the amp it says 4-16 ohms for 2 speakers and 8-16 ohms for 4 speakers. So it seems I really shouldn't run four 6 ohms speakers via the 9500II.

I thought about adding a 4 channel 200wpc power amp. However most of those also say the same thing - 4-16 ohms for 2 speakers, 8-16ohms for four.

Is there anything that can play four 6 ohm speakers? Or do I really need two amps - one for each pair? I'd like to add a bunch more power, so running one pair with the SA9500II and a second pair via a 2 channel amp seems like it won't work because I'll be limited by the SA9500II's output...

There are plenty of quality amps that will drive down to almost a 0-ohm load.

I know my Counterpoint amp will do it as well as a Stratos and some Sunfire amps.

Or you can use 2 amps, both driven by the same preamp. Each amp will see a 6 ohm load.

That opens up still more options.

Most quadraphonic receivers / amplifiers will be happy to run 6Ω speakers. Each speaker is run from its own amplifier.

Most NAD integrated and power amps will hand 2 ohm loads without batting an eye.

That's a picture of a NAD C320BEE driving two ohm loads- THREE six-ohm speakers (JBL L100s are effectively 6 ohms- the woofers are 4.9 ohms DCR) in parallel, per channel.

It was pretty much louder than hell, and sounded great. :D

We ran it for several hours like that, and it didn't even get over mildly warm.

BTW: Just make sure it's a NAD STEREO (two channel) amp or receiver. Their HT (5.1, etc) receivers are junk, IMHO.

Regards,

Gordon.

You can wire them in a series parallel configuration. In which the amp will see 6 ohms for all 4 speakers per side.
