Can Dust Covers Darken Over Time?

So I rescued a Philips GA-212 the other day and am quite taken with it. To be honest, the second I saw the green-lighted capacitive buttons, I knew I wanted to pick it up. It's a beat worse for the ware, and will take time to clean up, but it plays as it should and the only real problem is the power button--which is a problem all 212s seem to have.

One thing that I noticed is that the dust cover is much darker than other 212s I've seen while doing research on the internet. It is easy two or three shades darker, almost a coffee brown. I have yet to really give the dust cover a good cleaning, but I am wondering if dust covers can darken over the years if exposed to things like direct sunlight, smoke, etc.. Furthermore, and I am guessing there is little that can be done, but is there any way to lighten a darkened dust cover if that is the case? Probably not, but figured I'd ask anyway.

I wonder if they made a few smoked brown dust covers, like some of the old Duals. Here's a picture of one being advertised as "great shape". Does yours look like this?

I've seen brownish Philips covers, and I never thought it was caused by age or anything. It seemed original to me.

If you clean it and it's uniformly coloured I wouldn't worry about it.
 
Ones that yellow are made from polycarbonate. The dark bluish colored ones are DR Acrylic which will never yellow.
 
I have seen plastic darken from age or environment but usually its uneven. If the color is very uniform my money would be on it being made that way.

You mean like if you have enough Brilliant Pebbles strewn around the room or if your Clever Little Clock is keeping time or if your phone line is working so what's-his-name can call you to tweak your system?
