Can I plug a desktop guitar amp into the Wiim pro?

I have a Fisher 400 receiver in a stereo cabinet with speakers and the Wiim pro plugged into the aux output.

This works great but I also want to plug a little desktop guitar amp into the Wiim to hear it on the speakers. I plan on getting a Yamaha THR10X, THR10II, or a THR30II. Ideally the THR10II because the price is right, but only the THR30II has line out.

I'm totally new to audio equipment so maybe this is a dumb question but how do I connect one of these desktop amps to the Wiim? Does it need to have line out?

These are the THR30II outputs

The Wiim has these inputs

The Wiim inputs are RCA but I think the THR30II are coax? Will this work?

Why involve the Wiim? It appears that the Yamaha has line-out jacks. Plug them into the Tape Monitor jacks on the Fisher. Note the power-on/power-off process specified in the Yamaha user manual. Make sure volume on Fisher turned all the way down before powering up or down.

Yeah but I only have one aux output there. I would have to manually plug/unplug the Wiim and guitar amp when using them. Is there an inexpensive device I could plug both the Wiim and amp into that plugs into the receiver which could toggle between them?

The other thing though is I was thinking that going through the Wiim would make it safer? ie not having to worry about turning the volume down and damaging the receiver when turning it on. Would I need coax to RCA to plug the amp into the Wiim?

I thought the Fisher has a tape monitor input.? If so, use it. Line out from the Yamaha (RCA connections) to tape monitor of the Fisher (RCA connections).

BTW, Aux is an input, not an output.

Yes, you can use the line out of the Yamaha to line in on Wiim. These are RCA connections. Wiim will convert signal to digital and then back to analog. Generally, avoiding this extra step is preferable. Wiim only has two inputs: line in (analog) and optical in (digital).

If you want to add inputs to the Fisher, get an inexpensive RCA switch. Plug it into Aux of the Fisher, plug input components into the switch.

Regardless of how you use the Wiim, you might want to experiment with its output voltage (in Settings). It's default is 2V, which may be too "hot" for the Fisher. Try 500mV or 1V. This will give you a wider range of control with the volume knob on the Fisher, and may help to avoid overloading the Fisher.

Sorry meant to say output. I'll look into an RCA switch then thanks! Dumb question, just to confirm, the line out on the Yamaha isn't coax? I can just use a regular RCA cable for it? Should I also look into the voltage of the Yamaha too and lower that if it lets me?

Also, I hadn't even considered the Wiim being too hot for the fisher. I keep my speakers relatively low so I don't need a lot of throughput there I could probably do 200 which seems to be the lowest setting. For my own edification, I noticed in the Wiim settings I can change the SPDIF and Coax output resolution but Line Out doesn't have that setting, why is that?

Thanks for the help!

Wiim line out is analog. Resolution is a digital function.

I doubt if the Yamaha unit allows for control of output voltage.

Still don't understand why you wouldn't use the tape monitor input of the Fisher as a second analog input? Wiim into Aux, Yamaha into tape monitor. Or vise versa.

Tape monitor...NOT tape head.

I didn't realize I could even do that. The "TAPE MON" LR is just another input? Is there any difference or reason to plug Yamaha/Wiim into the aux vs the tape monitor?

On the front the dial has the "AUX - TAPE" as a single setting, does that mean both inputs are active at once?

Ohhh theres a TAPE MONITOR on/off switch. So do I just switch the dial to "AUX - TAPE" and flip that switch on/off to change between Wiim/amp?

I believe you'll need a set of TRS-to-RCA cables to make the connection you are looking for, the diagram posted clearly shows the Yamaha does not have RCA output jacks.

Ah TRS, don't know why I was saying coax. Well thanks again for walking me through this!

So I have to make sure the guitar amp is turned down before I switch on the aux/tape on the receiver, is that because if the volume is up on the Yamaha it could send it too much power too fast? Is there like a little thingy I can put between the Yamaha that would help prevent that from happening?

The other way to do it with the THR3011 wireless is use bluetooth to go from the Yamaha guitar amp to the Wiim Pro. No cables needed.
The audio output knob on the Yamaha controls both bluetooth and Aux. output volume.
So you can easily control volume there at the guitar amp output, wireless or via cable, to the Fisher.
There is also a 1/8" mini jack for aux. output on the top control panel, which be more convenient than TRS cables.
See the details in the operation guide for the series - From that guide it shows the less expensive THR1011 wireless also has bluetooth output, and the 1/8" mini jack for audio out, again both controlled by the Audio Output knob. But not the back panel TRS jacks.
