I think my ct-f1250 deck has a worn playback head.. the sound is not 100% clear and having screwed it and not gettign satisfied however I put the head made me to...

I found a ct-f1000 head which I years ago took out from the deck and yep...it looks just like the ct-f1250 head and I remember it souding nice back then so can it be put on the ct-f1250? same head=? anyone done anything like this before?

theres 8 wires to sold....not so difficult I guess. yippee maybe this problem can be solved...

I recall the 1000 head being ferrite, and the 1250 head being sendust. They might be physically the same, but they are indeed different.

What you would have to do is look at both schematics for the 1000 and 1250 and look at the component values for the record EQ, PB EQ and any impedance matching components between record amp and head. The circuits will likely be very similar. Match the values for the 1000 to the 1250, and Voila! I did this years ago on my old A-650 (swapped a sendust head for the ferrite head), and the results were quite impressive. The one thing to consider is metal tape. I would be worried about bias current capability in the older head, as the 1000 did not do metal.

Are you the original owner of the 1250? Make sure your tape head is nice and clean and demagnitized! There are so many variables that can affect playback/record functions on these tape decks. Tape alignment across the heads, pinch roller tension, hard/worn out pinch rollers, electrical components gone bad, etc. When it comes to the mechanical functions each adjustment/repair will affect another. Take a look at the supply pinch roller assy (left one) and examine the nylon adjustment nut. If it's cracked it will not hold or even take adjustment for your tape guide alignment. Check that first, a sure sign is tape roll over or crinkling of the the tape. Next would be the pressure applied by the coil springs on the pinch roller assy's and the condition of the rubber rollers. That dictates the gap between the tape and head which will affect the sound quality. It took me over a year to get my previously owned 1250 playable and listenable. Quite a hair puller. Take lots of notes and setting adjustments as you go along, cause you will forget. Hopefully you put your tape head alignment setting back as closely to where it was originally at.

thanks alot to your thoughts guys....

today I took away the head from the ctf1250 deck..the wires were really hard stuck in the head...some wires didnt leave any metal left in the head so hard to use this head any further perhaps :(....should have cut the wires a bit from the head plate I guess?

anyway today Ill buy solder cord so I can match the wires and perhaps get this deck sounding again....and I really hope...get it Sound better than before.....

what you think guys.....will my deck sound again?

argh, today i tried to solder the wires to the playbackhead but didnt go so well.
had to cut maybe three of the wires. the gold end is gone only grey wire to work with now.....is there somewhere to but those gold ends? they are easier to solder :scratch2:

the battle continues....
