Can I switch my Shure Type D cart off my Dual 1019 TT for a ADC XLM lll cart?

I want to take the Shure Type D, E T2 cart off my Dual 1019 turntable and replace it with an ADC XLM lll cart? Is this possible to do, the ADC cart is currently on my Technics SL 23 TT. I just want to switch the carts between the TT.

No. The "Type D" usually means it's a Dual specific model, meaning the cart and the headshell sled are one piece. So you can't mount another cart on that particular sled, and you can't mount the Shure on another headshell. If you can get another sled for your Dual meant for any cartridge then you should be able to mount the ADC on that..

Actually, yes. Sort of.

You can remove the Shure from the sled and mount another cartridge as they are not actually one piece; they clip together. In this TK14 (5xx, 6xx and 12xx models) below there are slots still in the sled portion for the hardware too. I am pretty sure the TK12 version (Dual 1009 and 1019 models) is the same way. However the cartridge will now be pretty useless as it does not have the right design to mount on another headshell or sled with nuts and bolts.

So, I would not do it. If you do want to try the ADC on the Dual I would get another sled. The injection molded ones on eBay are quite good if you can't get an original. In fact I like them better than the originals and better than the 3D printed ones.

Sorry late to this. The Shure 75 isn't a bad sounding cart. If you have had it a long time you may want to replace the stylus. The JICO replacement runs around $35. Have tried the EVGs from Gary at Voiceofmusicenthuseists. They run about $20 plus shipping. Have tried several of these, one for a M91ED on a Dual 1219 and one on a V15 type III on my Garrard Zero 100. Though I have used JICO in the past I have found the EVGs sound pretty good.

I agree with above. If you want to use the ADC, get a spare headshell. There is a seller on Eprey selling new ones. If you buy one be careful mounting it on the arm. Move the chrome lever slowly. I broke one on a 1015. Not a happy experience.

Wow, I was unaware of that injection molded shell, I've been using one of the 3D printed ones. I'll have to pick one of the others up.

Montycat's spot on :bigok:

The Shure Cart body clips in/out of the sled

The sled can then take a std. cart

I too swapped it out for an XLM III

It's a crackin' match with the 1019 :music:

Why not just give it a try and keep your M75 body safely packed away for future use - as mine is

Might just try that.

Thanks something to consider.

I'm staring to think a stylus upgrade might be the way to go. When I bought the 1019, the owner wasn't sure how many hours were on the stylus. So I'm assuming it's time for a change. Can anyone and I appreciate the recommendations I've already got here, recommend a stylus for the M75 Shure Type D, E T2 cart that I have on my Dual. I am looking for a stylus with a warm presentation.
