Can Pioneer SA8800 II connect with over ear headphones ?

Hi, i just have pioneer sa 8800 ii from my dad, i have phillips shp9600 headphones so pioneer ampfilier can connect with headphones ? I read on the internet that because the sa8800 ii is an amplifier for speaker systems, if you plug in headphones it will break the headphone driver, is that true?
