Can Someone Help ID Magnavox Amp From Console Pics?

This came up for sale a couple hours away from me. The owner knows nothing about it except that is works. Is it possible to identify which amp is inside this Magnavox console?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

Definitely tube but with just the pics we have, single ended or push pull stereo, you're just rolling the dice!

It most likely has the tuner/preamp in the other side.

most likely an 8800 or 8600 or an 8300......

But be careful....I picked up one like that and didn't look first....and it was an early transistor.

Just shine a flash light into the back holes....of the pegboard....and you either see the tube amp....or you don't.

You might want to ask the owner if he can remove the back and take additional pics. A four hour round trip is a long way to go if it's not what you're looking for.

If you just want to make sure it's a tube unit but don't care if it's SE or PP, even a pic of the back panel might help. SS models usually have a sticker or notice printed directly on the back panel that says "contains no user serviceable parts" (meaning tubes). Also, SS models won't have as many holes in the back panel.

I can't say with 100% certainty, but I'm fairly confident that you are looking at the MCM cabinet variant of the console that my daughter used to have, which uses the AMP196.

Funny we all guessed wrong. Yea, Magnavox sure used a lot of different amps....

I had forgotten it might be a 196...

But. Hey.....the 185 is nice!

The 175 and 185 have plenty of room if you ever want to upgrade the output transformers too..
