Can they do this?

I was bidding on a pair of JBL L300 speakers, they were a 24 hour auction and I was winning the bidding....and the seller pulls the auction and relists the speakers and puts in the words summit...which then grabs a tons of attention and the bidding is going to go crazy now as there are more bidders.

Looks like someone else complained as well and Ebay took the other auction down as well as i can't fin dthe new relisted auction anymore....

He used another screen name as well... shifty...

I'm not bashing Ebay but I see why people have a bad opinion about it. i'll still use it but it just stinks people like that have to ruin it.

i hear what you're saying, but don't feel bad. the auction probably wouldn've ended with appropriate price anyways. bidders won't let such a well known speakers slip by. i've seen some auctions stay under $100 and then in the last hour, catch fire and end at thousands of $$. hitting a bargain jackpot on ebay is no longer possible.... when i bid, i'm ready to pay a full price - otherwise, i hit the estate sales and such.

Agreed... CL, Thrift and Estate sales are the way to go...finding parts is the best way to use Ebay....and local pickup only's!!!

Some sellers don't know what they have and then when bidders email them and tell them what they have then they will relist it with the proper wording. I have done this a few times but usually there are no bids on it yet. You have to blame the seller as much as the bidders on ebay. Lots of bidders know they won't win the auction and so they purposely tell the seller what it is and how to relist it so it goes sky high. Its like when a poster on CL ask for audio equipment and then a viewer posts an ad stating they are worth tons of money....in the human language we call this jealousy. Its like my friend says its all just stuff and theres tons more where that came from, wish people would learn that.

Was that one of the auctions that said it was a buy it now auction only, and that you had to email him at a gmail address? If so, it was a scam any way......... somebody's account got hijacked.

No, it was another one. It didn't have a buy it now. but who knows the other one could have been a hijacked account as well.
