Can you help me a pick a receiver restoration technician?

I picked up my Carver mx150 and my Fisher 2015 last month the repairs were made and I am very happy with the service that was provided. Right now stereo and video repair is working on my Scott r390 and my Seton r s660 they're supposed to be finished by the end of this week. On the Seton rs660 it has the on-off power switch on the same Pole with the speaker selector. This design was not one of seton's better ideas, so my tech came up with an idea to wire in a relay to stop the arcing that occurs when turning on and off the receiver

Any recommendations near mid Michigan for Marantz work ?

Doug at Audio Specialties here in PDX does a good job. He gave me a range to get my 2215B right and was closer to the lower end. He gets great reviews, and often when you see vintage stuff on CL you'll see something like, "recently serviced by Doug at Audio Specialties."

Only thing is he has a ton of work (probably because he's so good). I was bummed when he told me 5 weeks and was hoping I'd get a call early (it's my first Marantz and I was Jonesing). Lo and behold, I got the call yesterday at 3 weeks to come pick it up.

This guy will not restore anything.

Restorations are not on the menu. He will invest a minimum of time and parts just to get the device operational and call it good. His solder joints are sloppy most of the time.

The only reason he is backed up a few weeks or more most of the time is because he is the only one in pdx doing this and he is a 1 man show.

If you buy used gear from him, plan on it barely working and in need of a restoration.

I don't recommend this guy.

I guess I have to backtrack somewhat and on Audio Specialties. Doug doesn’t do refurbs. Can’t comment on his solder joints as I never inspected something he worked on, but my 2215B worked fine after he repaired it. As far as buying gear from him, the math suggests failure at some point if he isn’t replacing all the electrolytic caps on old gear.

A big part of his business is buy/sell/trade with the used gear. His primary concern with it all is LOOKS. If it looks good, clean and straight....well cared for....and it turns on and plays, it is out for sale. He checks DC voltage at the binding posts of all amplifiers and tries to make sure that the functions work. He doesnt even take the tops off and look inside. One amplifier I bought from him had 1/2inch of dust inside. He definitely did not have that top off. I have bought about 6-8 devices from him, all had issues. He refuses to fix any of them or says that the problem I am noticing is just normal and not really even a problem then he just offers to give me my money back.
