Can you identify this cartridge and stylus?

Hello everyone. I just bought a Technics SL-D303 for next to nothing online. No information was given on the cart other than a photo taken from a weird angle. This should be an easy one for anyone who knows. Please share you thoughts on what it is and if it's worth getting a new stylus for it. I'm pretty sure the stylus in the photo will need to be replaced before I put it on my vinyl.

Thanks

Realistic (by Shure) R47xt with a Shure 5x stylus. It's a good cartridge, roughly equivalent to the M95. M95 styli will work as will M70/71 I think.

Correct about cartridge and stylus, although for replacements an N95 will not fit without some trimming due to physical interference of the grip, but an Ne95 stylus will fit as well as any for N70 and N72 applications and also any NDC styli. The generator itself is indeed the equivalent of the M95 so really pretty good.

Yup. My answer was a bit of a shorthand version from my phone. I've had several of that cartridge and the M95 is a favourite.

Hey there!! I dug out our my Technics SL-303 and need to replace the stylus. I've seen the posts about a Realistic R47xt w/a 5x stylus. Also noted the N95. Here's what mine looks like. Nothing mentioned above looks like mine. Can anyone identify this stylus / cartridge? I need to replace it and I'm at a loss. Here's what my current Audio Technica looks like. I would really appreciate guidance here! I'm dying to put on my old vinyl!!! - K

Hi Karla,

I'd say that's an AT110E and the replacement stylus is an ATN110E. Originals are still available at online stylus and phono places, one example being thevoiceofmusic dot com. Others should be along shortly to confirm.

Greetings and welcome to AK! If you take off the screws holding the cart to the headshell you will see the model number. It's the only thing I don't like about Audio Technica cartridges. They make good cart carts. Once you identify the model number, go to Voiceofmusicenthuseists. Gary should have a replacement stylus. Shure made the Realistic cartridge you mentioned. I have one in my parts bin and a Audio Technica AT11. Both need replacement stylus.' Gary has generics for $14. I have had good luck with these.

If you want to get a new cartridge, the Shure M44 is a good choice. You can upgrade to a better stylus like a N55 elliptical stylus. The last M44 I got on Amazon was around $50. I later got the upgrade from JICO for around $35. My Dual 1219 pictured has that combination. I am married to Shures but also recommend Audio Technicas. I would try a new stylus first. Fourteen dollars. Good luck and again welcome!

Eric
