Canadian Order from Soundstage Direct

Just went to place an order with this firm that I have ordered L.P.'s many times before. If I lived in the U.S., I believe I would have qualified for free shipping. My order, which was 3 L.P.'s were about $80.00. The cheapest rate, shipping to Canada was about $36.00. To me, that is totally ludicrous. I wish to order from this site as it is an A.K. sponsor, and I have always used the link from A.K. , but from now on , I think I may have to find another source to purchase my L.P's. I do know I do not qualify for free shipping living in Canada, but, it does not cost $36.00 to send a package of 3 L.P.'s to Canada!

I have to agree with you there... there's no way it could cost that much to ship to Ontario. :no:

I feel like certain American companies/sellers on Fleabay or elsewhere have a hate-on for Canadians, and therefore stick it to us.

I've run into so many websites or auctions that could have been a good deal if it wasn't for the shipping.

Definite bummer.

Which 3 LPs was it? It is done be weight

We can weigh the LPs and see if correct or there is a glitch, Our site receives real time rates from UPS and USPS.

Three LPs is usually over 4 pounds with are packing and will not qualify for First Class International

I don't know about this particular order, but shipping from the US to Canada isn't cheap. I just took delivery of a service manual today. It was very light, but the shipping charge was almost $7. All of the vinyl I've ordered through the US over the years has had a healthy shipping charge, too. Punch the numbers into the USPS site, it's not pretty.

Don't get me started about UPS shipments across the border. Unless it is a fantastic deal, I refuse to do business when UPS is the only option.
 
Dave, be sure to give Seth the titles, so that he can double-check the accuracy of the quote.
 
Well, we'll see. The P.M.'d me for details. If there is a "glitch" on their sight, best to let them know. If they do not find any fault with it, and those high charges are what they are going to charge, they will loose Canadian customers. Hopefully, it's just a glitch.

Maybe my memory is bad, but I have never paid this high of price. Usually shipping something from Canada to the States is very costly, but from the states to Canada is usually reasonable. Has always made me envious of the more economic shipping/postal charges you have on "the other side of the river".

This is from USPS website Priority Mail® International 6 - 10 business days $33.45

we use very strong and thick boxes to make sure the LPs arrived in mint condition which adds to the weight

if you, like we can ship in a lighter box and not insure it and save you around $10.00

The last vinyl order I did through the states was Wilco's 10" release. I also got their The Whole Love box(to build my own "boxset") with it. The order for a 10" record and an empty box was $21.70. The shipping was $16.20.
I'm not against buying vinyl(or anything really) from the states and having it shipped, but the cost of shipping is a big factor. I prefer to buy my vinyl local for the most part. I don't blame the sellers, USPS charges what they charge.

Sorry Seth, I have ordered from you before with great results, great packaging and so forth. But, the shipping cost to us Canadains has become way to high. I am truly saddened but I will have to find another source to order L.P.'s...........Dave
 
At this point, Seth and I are trying to work something out. I know he has a first class business but shipping is very high and unfortunately, beyond his control. I really want to deal with an AK sponsor and at the same time, enjoy the first class service I have enjoyed from Soundstage in the past..........Dave
 
Not to stir the pot but I have ordered from Canada and shipping is really no better to the US. Blame the postal services and shipping companies, me personally I dont understand why the two nations that border one another cannot have comparable rates as local domestic shipping.
 
I dont get it either : we are supposed to have a free trade agreement : the one that grinds me is Parts Express... free from Mid-U.S. to Alaska for crying out loud : thousands of miles : but 100 yards across the river from "free shipping" Detroit / Buffalo etc etc is ludicrous..... I would do a lot more business with P.E. if their shipping cost (and I'm sure not ALL of the problem is their doing) was reasonable ....... there ... I got it off my chest
 
Interesting. I also just ordered from Soundstage and I live in BC. One album, shipping was $11.32. I only live about 40 minutes from the border, so I often will have it shipped to a border town in Washington state, but for $11 I can't drive an hour and a half not to mention my time. $36 sounds pretty steep though...

What boggles my mind is that I occasionally buy stuff that ships out of Hong Kong and a) shipping is always DIRT CHEAP, like $2 or $3 for a small box, and b) it seems to arrive almost overnight. How can it cost $2 to ship something 6,000 miles across a vast ocean but cost $11 to ship something from California which is a relative short hop?
 
I own a mail order business and face the same challenges every day with orders from Canada. Since the postal service discontinued media mail and parcel post, and capped first class at 4lbs some of our larger items get pretty expensive to ship.

If you can keep the weight below 4lbs, you can ship to Canada for about $12 to $15. The catch is, you can't do it online so you have to either go to the post office (unrealistic for a business) or use a service like Stamps.com or Endicia.

Just shipped a record to Sweden yesterday for $18 via First Class with insurance and tracking.

$36. is steep. The fact that 1 L.P. cost you $11.30 to ship, my three L.P.'s would have probably been "combined shipped" in one box but if I'm doing the math here correctly, I would have been charged your price x's 3. The only difference would have been the weight of 2 extra L.P.'s and a bit of protective packageing. If I lived in the states, the shipping would have been free! If I was quoted $15-$18 at the checkout, I likely would not have taken back as I was when I posted last night. Both seller and buyer loose in this case
