Cannon TLS 1022 questions.

Hi everyone,

I just picked up a pair of Cannon TLS 1022 speakers at the local GW for $24. I understand that the TLS series have a decent rep and these seem to be very well built. They are a two way model and they have a dome tweeter instead of the horn tweeter other TLS models have. Does anyone have any experience or with these? Also, where would be the best place to get new woofer foams for these? They don't seem all that common.

I have a pair of the TLS 1232T's. I don't really listen to them much anymore, in the "collection" so to speak. But I thought all the TLS series had horn tweeters. Can you post pics? They were made by ESS in the late 70's. I bought foam for the woofers from SimplySpeakers.com. They also sell the exact replacement passive radiator as well.
Or does that model have passives?

Hi,

No, this model does not have passives, just a 10 inch woofer and a dome tweeter in a well built, ported box. I found the foam on simply speakers as well. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of how they sound. I'm hoping they're not just party speakers.

Concerning photos, i'll post some tomorrow.

Well.....I am not sure about that model. But the ones I have.....they fall into the party speaker category to me. They'll take a good amount of power and not complain a bit. The ones I have were my Dad's. I restored them and rebuilt the crossovers a few years back. They can get a little tiresome on my ears. But then again I am not a big fan of horn tweeters. At least not done right. But yours won't have that problem.

But for the money you'll have in them after refoam. You are not doing bad I think. They won't have much resale value at all. But still not bad for a functioning pair of speakers.

Well,

I tried them out and both tweeters are off line. They have some kind of proprietary size hex nut, so I can't get them out. too bad, the woofers sounded great, even without the surrounds. Well, back they go tomorrow. Gotta love GW's 3 day warranty on electronics!

Do they have tweeter pots on the front or back? Try cleaning those with contact cleaner before taking them back (if you have time before the warranty runs out).

They went back this morning, I didn't have time the rest of the week to get into them.

I have a pair of Cannon Tls 1232's That I inherited from my dad. I Plan to use them with a Sansui Ba3000 and ca3000. I was hoping to hear thoughts on whether they will handle the ba3000 safely. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I also have a pair of klipsch heresy speakers and a pair of Sansui spx 7900's. Opinions on which would pair best with the aforementioned reciever and preamp.Thank you Vittorio.
