canton quinto bass

hello, first time posting on audiokarma, found so much info and inspiration the past years so let me start by thanks to everyone sharing and asking the right questions.

I recently bought a pair of canton quinto 520, the sound is overall impressive, although the bass is missing a bit depth and warmt in my opinion, for my feels.

I proceeded in buying some 540 as well, hoping they would bring that extra warmth in bass i was looking for.

Unfortunately i am not convinced, the 540 actually sound even more flat (bass wise) than the 520's i have.

now this brings me to few questions :

1 / could another amplifier bring some extra bass, i am now running them on a Cambridge 640A.
1.2 / anyone has a nice vintage amplifier suggestion having nice bas rendering?

2 / or should i just recap the speakers?

3 / i could add a subwoofer but i am afraid i will get the neighbour complaining : )

Welcome to AK.

The 540's should go pretty low according to the specs I could find. Have you checked the speaker connections to make sure they are in phase. + on Cambridge to + on the Cantons - to - etc.. Are the woofer surrounds stiff and maybe need loosened after being dormant for awhile with the previous owner? Does your listening area allow for experimenting with different placements on your 2 sets of Cantons? Sometimes just a few inches off/closer to the ground or closer/farther away from walls or corners can make a big difference.

Have you had other speakers hooked to the Cambridge that you were happy with the bass response? Do you have or can you borrow another power unit to eliminate the Cambridge as a potential issue. Sorry, I don't have experience with your speakers or integrated but I do have power units and speakers that don't play as well together as they do with other combinations. Sometimes it's a synergy thing.

I would try the easy stuff 1st and keep the idea of recapping the speakers in your mind.
