Cap question for Pioneer SX 780

Hey all,

The filter caps in my 780 are both 8000uf 50v caps and I cannot seem to find anything in the 8000 uf range even at higher voltages. Anyone know where I can get ahold of some? Also, I did find an 8200 uf model through work, would this work in place (its 75 volts if i remember correctly, but its over 50)? Thanks

8200's fine...

caps were spec'd -20 % +80 percent back then

80 % high = 14,400 :yikes:

would it make any difference in the sound quality if I were to put in 14k caps? Not that I would actually do it but was just curious :)

not really, just start to put a strain on your power diodes with the start up surge.

I'm just wondering if the OP lost power from the voltage Regulators getting overheated and having a "Cold Solder Joint".

Check the 3 Voltage Regulators on the left side of the main board (next to the DIODES). Remove old solder and Resolder. Add heatsinks to cool them down some.

ive looked at the joints on those and they still seem to be fine, gonna get another output pack and when i get some time recap the whole deal, then keep it as a spare for my 750:thmbsp:
