Capacitor coupled vs Direct coupled

Hi all,

On the back of my AU-717 there is a choice of power amp switching. Direct or Cap Coupled. What are the pro's and con's of the two choices. I've been told that running a tube pre would work "better" with the Cap coupled option.

Thanks,
Speedy

If you are 100% sure that there is no DC on the output of your preamp, you can use direct. Otherwise use cap coupled.

I have an AU-517 but I'm using it as a preamp, going to a Parasound amp.
In which case the switch does nothing except to interrupt the signal going to the amp section of the 517.

The 'Direct Coupled' & 'Cap-Coupled' are in reference to how an external preamp will be coupled to the 517's (or similar gear's) amplifier section...it has no effect on the signal at the preamp output jacks of the unit. IOW, it's an input function, not an output function.
