My pair of Wharfedale W60D speakers are ready for their capacitors to be replaced, perhaps the attenuators too, but that’s another story. Reading through the various posts it seems the consensus is that oil capacitors are a very good replacement for vintage Wharfedale speakers such as these, however.
Looking online it seems that most of the oil capacitors listed are +/- 10% in their specifications and again in some AK post a 20% deviation from tolerance has been reported to not improve the sound of the speakers.
With these thoughts in mind I was surprised to find that Mundorf has a line of oil capacitors that are +/- 3% and while expensive compared to Dayton capacitors are not the crazy money expensive I have found online for other new oil capacitors. What is also nice is that they have an 8.2uf / 450V capacitor which would replace one of the original 8.2uf capacitors, and while they do not have a 25uf capacitor, they do have a 10uf and a 15uf capacitor (again 450V) which I understand could be wired in such a way so that they could act as a 25uf capacitor.
If the latter is true, has anyone had any experience using this type of oil capacitor in their Wharfedale W60D speaker? The capacitor in question is the Mundorf M Cap EVO Oil, which is of aluminum oil construction and was listed at Parts Connection. Thanks for your comments and thoughts.
