Capacitor Questions

I am in the process of recapping my Realistic SAF-40D integrated amp. One of the filter capacitors I bought to replace an old one isn't exactly the same values. Would I be able to replace a 20uf 50V capacitor with a 25uf 50V? The amp also has two two-sectioned can caps that are each rated 40uf 250V. Richey makes an exact replacement, while F&T makes one that 50uf. What would be the better capacitor? I've never heard of the Richey brand, but maybe I should try to get close to the original values? Thanks!

you can use 2 10uf in parallel to make 20uf, same for 40uf etc.
i'd stay with the original values, if i'm not sure how it's going to work with different values.

The 25uF @ 50 volt will work just fine!

I agree, a 25 UF 50 volt cap will replace a 20 UF cap with no problems as the tolerance of electrolytic caps could be as high as 100%. The same goes for the 40 UF caps, a 50 UF will be fine too. Use whichever caps are cheaper.

No problem. The standard value to use there would 22uf but 20, 22, or 25 would all be fine. At that voltage I expect its the cathode cap, and the value there isn't terribly critical.
